The USS Carney was on a patrol of the Atlantic Ocean, heading out from its port in Rota, Spain shortly after the terrorist attacks in Paris, France.
[revad1]
As they began their patrol they approached the French frigate Jean de Vienne.
Commanding officer Cmdr. Kenneth Picard made the call for passing honors. Lead the way, Picard flew a French flag from the yardram and all the sailors aboard lined up to salute the Jean de Vienne.
But what was most amazing was what Picard radioed to the French vessel:
“Friends always, allies forever, in defense of liberty.”

From Rare:
After the Paris attacks, Americans everywhere have been showing their solidarity with the people of France. The military is no exception.
The USS Carney, an Arleigh-Burke class missile destroyer, has been deployed to Rota, Spain. While conducting a patrol in the Atlantic Ocean, they encountered the French frigate Jean de Vienne. And like so many other Americans since ISIS attacked Paris, the sailors on board took a moment to show that they stand with France.
