With its abilities to achieve Mach 3 and altitudes of 85,000 feet and above, this reconnaissance holds numerous aviation records for altitude and speed. However due to the secretive nature of its missions and the fact that only about 90 people have ever flown one – none since 1999, not much else is known about this jet.
Recently Ret. Col. Buzz Carpenter, a former SR-71 pilot who flew missions above numerous parts of the world, confounding missile systems and foreign interceptor jets, opened up about his experiences.
