The 2003 Battle of Najaf in Iraq was a major conflict in the early stages of the Iraq War.
The fight began as the US 3rd Infantry Division surrounded the town and culminated with the U.S. 101st Airborne Division fighting to clear and secure the city.

The opposition forces were Shia terrorists known as the Mahdi Army. Mahdi, to Shias is the successor of Muhammed who is hidden from humanity until he reappears to bring justice to the world.
