Marine Lance Cpl. Travis Williams was sent on a rescue mission in Barwanah, Iraq during August 2005.
As he and his team boarded the vehicles, he was asked to join the other team in the vehicle behind theirs. Seconds later the vehicle he just left was hit by a roadside bomb, leaving the 12 men inside dead.

Below is an animated story documenting that horrifying day and the tough moments Williams had to face in the days, weeks and months after. He serves as narrator in the story entitled “1st Squad, 3rd Platoon.” It serves at a potent reminder of how much is sacrificed in war, not only by those lost but by those who are entrusted with carrying the memories of the fallen.
