The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has paid out millions of dollars to law firms suing former president Donald Trump for one reason or another, according to a new review of Federal Election Commission filings by The Daily Caller.
The DNC, which oversees the Democratic Party’s national election strategy, has paid close to $2 million since August of 2021 to Kaplan Hecker & Fink LLP for “legal services,” the FEC records show.
Kaplan Hecker & Fink LLP represented E. Jean Carroll in her sexual assault and defamation suits against Trump, which have been ongoing since 2019. Of note, the DNC had not paid Kaplan Hecker & Fink LLP prior to August 2021, according to the FEC records.
The Daily Caller found that the DNC also paid Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP around $2 million between February and December of 2021. This firm has represented at least a dozen amicus briefs supporting the U.S. Department of Justice in the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals in their ongoing arguments that Trump should be tried in federal court on criminal charges relating to his efforts to challenge the 2020 election and find him criminally liable for the chaos that unfolded as demonstrators entered the U.S. Capitol and clashed with police on Jan. 6, 2021.

The DNC’s payments to Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP predate Trump’s federal criminal indictment in Washington, D.C. ABC News reported that the firm has “represented the DNC for a long time.” Former special counsel Robert Mueller, who from 2017 to 2019 investigated claims of collusion between Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and Russia, is also a WilmerHale alumnus.
“There is now clear and explosive evidence that the Biden DNC is paying Democrat law firms to engage in this unprecedented lawfare and election interference against President Trump,” Mike Davis, a legal adviser to Trump, told the Daily Caller.
