Op-Ed: Progressive politicians ‘never let a crisis go to waste’ by demonizing bump fire stocks

All Americans were saddened and heartbroken over the senseless tragedy that took place in Las Vegas earlier this month. Many of us awakened on Monday morning horrified to learn that a gunman opened fire at a large group of people who were gathered to enjoy a country music concert. As we learned that 58 people lost their lives and nearly 500 others were injured, we wondered: how could this happen? As news filled the airways the following days, we watched in disbelief and wondered how a sick person could dwell in so much evil. This event was reported as the largest mass killing with a firearm in American history.

A common question asked was how could this have been prevented? Experts studied the situation in an attempt to learn a motive – What would bring a man to brutally shoot and kill so many people?

Before the blood was cleaned off the streets and the ink dried on the stories, liberal politicians moved quickly to use this situation to suit their agenda for increased gun control. The motto of “never let a crisis go to waste” was in full swing, as some liberals wasted no time to politicize the issue to fit an anti-gun agenda. As Americans mourned the dead and cared for the injured, left wing politicians used every opportunity and media outlet they could to blame guns and those who support them as the culprit for this tragedy.

Sickened by this, I recorded my thoughts in this video:

Once it was revealed what firearms were used, we learned this mass murderer had several firearms in his possession. Some of the rifles were equipped with a bump fire stock.

A bump fire stock is a legal device that was approved by the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives); a bump stock could potentially increase the rate of fire. The stock itself and its usage break no federal regulation because each trigger pull creates one shot fired. A bump fire stock does not turn a rifle into a heavily regulated, fully automatic firearm.

As progressives often do, they are quick to demonize anything that does not fit their agenda. In this case, it’s the bump fire stock. I watched one left wing politician after another claim to be experts on the bump fire stock – but their information was misinformed and outright wrong. Media hacks are just as bad. CNN ran an animated demonstration of how a bump stock operates that was so wrong, it was embarrassing. I have no problem discussing anything related to firearms and accessories, but it sure would help if these liberals knew what the heck they were talking about.

At a time like this, pro-Second Amendment (2A) people rely on lobbying groups like the NRA and Gun Owners of America (GOA) to get the correct information out and fight for our rights. Our 2A rights should never be compromised because a mass murdering psychotic individual used a gun to kill. It could be likened to a terrorist using a vehicle to mow down crowds of people at a public gathering; however, I don’t hear liberals attempting to ban vehicles, steak knives or baseball bats.

The fact is, progressive politicians will never be satisfied so long as firearms are part of our American culture. They are quick to dismiss the fact that guns save more lives in America than they take. Media pundits do not report the thousands of lives that are saved by good people who own guns. Implementing stricter gun control measures will only restrict the very law-abiding citizens who have the ability to prevent a crime and save lives. To expect a criminal to obey any additional gun control laws is nothing short of foolishness. Therefore, it is my opinion that pro-2A groups and gun owners in general surrender no ground in our constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

In a disappointing move, the NRA asked the ATF to take another look at bump fire devices to make sure they meet all federal regulations. Once again, the ATF approved the manufacture and use of bump fire systems due to the fact that each shot fired required one trigger pull. The companies who sold the bump fire stocks even included a letter from the ATF stating that it was a legal device to use.

Here is another video I made to explain my thoughts further. Please comment and let us know if you agree.
