Military working dogs are a huge asset when you’re deployed. To be able to have them by your side when on the battlefield, soldiers must undergo a long training process to learn how to communicate and follow the animal’s lead to steer away from danger.

This video shows soldiers and dogs working together at the Air Force Desert Defender Readiness Training Center on Fort Bliss, Texas. Military dog handlers spend 15 days learning to work with the animals in combat situations, and here, students are shown clearing an urban village, looking for explosives, and learning how to respond to the dog’s behavior.
