February 27, 2017

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer Jason Mitchell used money from his own pocket to ensure a stranded veteran returned home safely. The veteran was on his way to a VA home when his vehicle ran out of gas, leaving him stranded at Keystone Crossing, a busy thoroughfare in Indianapolis, IN.

Officer Mitchell filled the veteran’s gas tank with enough fuel to reach the VA home and also gave him enough cash to buy dinner on the way home. The whole event was caught on film by Mitchell’s dashcam. The footage was later used to bring awareness to Officer Mitchell’s good deed by posting screencaptures from the event on the IMPD’s official Facebook page.

After the event was shared on Facebook several other members of the community came forward to share their positive experiences with the IMPD and officer Mitchell in the comment section.
