What started out to be a normal night for one ArkLaTex grandma turned out to be anything but typical. Seventy four year-old Rebbie Roberson says she sat down to watch the news Sunday evening when a masked intruder suddenly appeared.
Roberson said, “And when I started to get up, he was in here on me with a gun facing me right to my face. So I had to walk right out in front of him. I didn’t know if he was going to kill me or what.”
In a move that likely saved her life, Roberson had a loaded gun on a nearby table and she grabbed it.
The spunky and very brave granny said, “I reached over there and grabbed this gun. And when I swerved around, I pointed it at him and he ran.”
Roberson said she repeatedly fired her .38-caliber pistol as she chased him out the door.
“I’m not sure I didn’t hit him,” she said. “I don’t know yet. I sure tried. I sure was hoping. That was the scare of my life. I tried to kill him. Anybody break in on me, I’m going to kill them. He’s going to kill me or I’m going to kill him.”
Police currently have no evidence to determine whether or not the intruder was wounded. Bowie County sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jeff Neal said, “It could have been worse for both individuals, both the victim and the suspect.”
