The U.S. Army announced on Thursday that 1,700 paratroopers will be deployed to Iraq. The 82nd Airborne’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team, currently stationed at Fort Bragg, will deploy to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility and take part in Operation Inherent Resolve. They will be deployed this winter with the objective of advising and assisting Iraqi Security Forces that are attempting to retake Mosul from ISIS.
Col. James “Pat” Work, commander of 2nd Brigade Combat Team, states that he has full confidence that the men will obtain their goal of liberating Mosul.
“Readiness is our top priority; our paratroopers are prepared for this deployment in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Our team looks forward to this important mission and our opportunity to assist our Iraqi partners.”
The 2nd Brigade Combat Team will be replacing the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, that have been training and advising the Iraqi soldiers since spring.
