ISIS militants are once again under the gun as a lone sniper picks them off one at a time. The gunman has been named the “Sniper of Mosul” and is effectively striking fear into the hearts and minds of ISIS militants.
Earlier this summer, 14 ISIS militants were killed in their Mosul headquarters by a group mystery men and last month, an Iraqi housewife boasted of targeting and killing ISIS militants and now adding to the terror within the ISIS ranks is the news that a sniper taking them out; this sniper just compounded the psychological warfare being waged on ISIS as the ongoing Mosul offensive continues. There’s speculation that the “Sniper of Mosul” is part of a larger team of resistance gunmen who are killing ISIS militants, which is primarily due to a simultaneous sniper presence in four separate neighborhoods.
The “Sniper of Mosul” is taking shots at ISIS in broad daylight with the most recent hit occurring during a public beheading; the Sniper of Mosul neutralized the ISIS militant who was merely seconds away from beheading a local teenager who was ‘accused of supporting resistance movements within Mosul.’ Shortly after the bullet struck the ISIS militant, the remaining ISIS militants scurried to find cover and as they unleashed a volley of gunfire and despite the sniper’s efforts, the boy was ultimately shot and killed by ISIS before he had a chance to flee.
ISIS militants have been in the gunman’s crosshairs for days now, more so now that the Mosul offensive is in full-swing, and his appearance has given ISIS resistance supporters a much needed boost of confidence. Al Sumaria News reports,
“The emergence of the ‘Sniper of Mosul, as the residents call him, increased the pace of the popular resistance against ISIS.”
Speculation continues as to who exactly the “Sniper of Mosul” actually is and if he is part of a larger group with the most predominant being that he is part of an elite, Special Forces team, but from what country remains unclear. What isn’t unclear is the level of fear he has instilled in ISIS militants as they’re picked off one at a time and in 10 days time, three ISIS leaders were shot and killed by the gunman, instilling a “state of terror” within the ranks.
