BREAKING: NYPD Shuts Down Times Square Over Suspicious Package – False Alarm – Empty Suitcase

This is a developing story.  We will continue to update as we learn new information.

[UPDATE – 9:48amEST] – The Assistant Commissioner for Communication & Public Information @NYPDNews and former spokesperon for the New York FBI said that the incident is over and it was an empty suitcase.

The NYPD has shut down Times Square because of a suspicious package found near the McDonalds on 42nd St between 7th and 8th avenues.  Police are investigating at the scene.

The Times Square subway station was also not allowing passengers to enter or exit. That station is a major transportation hub in Midtown Manhattan. The NYPD bomb squad is also on the scene.

There are no more details at this time but as soon as we learn more we will update you.
