He was hospitalized for undisclosed reasons. Police say that no foul play was suspected in his death.

In a text message to the Associated Press, Slice’s longtime manager, Mike Imber wrote, “We lost our brother today.”

In a statement, the CEO of Bellator MMA confirmed Slice’s death by saying:

We are all shocked and saddened by the devastating and untimely loss of Kimbo Slice, a beloved member of the Bellator family.  One of the most popular MMA fighters ever,  Kimbo was a charismatic, larger-than-life personality that transcended the sport. Outside of the cage he was a friendly, gentle giant and a devoted family man. His loss leaves us all with extremely heavy hearts, and our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Ferguson family and all of Kimbo’s friends, fans, and teammates.

Slice became an internet sensation after videos surfaced of him bare-knuckle brawling in the the streets. He turned his fame into a flourishing MMA professional fighting career where promoters knew he would draw large crowds.

Slice was known for his intimidating appearance, enthusiasm for fighting and extreme punching power.

He fought in several promotions including the UFC and Bellator. He headlined multiple Elite XC shows despite not being in the most elite MMA promotions.

Slice was scheduled to fight at Bellator 158 in London next month against James Thompson.

Kimbo Slice was always humble when talking about his fighting capabilities. He knew that he lacked experience when it came to MMA and described himself as punching brawler just trying to support his family.
