Today in an announcement at the White House, President Obama announced executive orders that will subvert Congress and infringe on the Second Amendment.

According to a White House press briefing, the orders include:
- Obama plans to expand the definition of a licensed gun dealer to include anyone who sells firearms at gun shows and online. He argues the move will close a purported “legal loophole” that lets gun buyers bypass background checks by purchasing firearms through trusts and corporations.
- Legal barriers will be removed so states can share information on Americans disqualified from gun ownership due to mental health reasons.
- The FBI will hire more than 230 new examiners to process background checks 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Obama plans to ask Congress to authorize $500 million to fund increased access to mental health care.
The most concerning elements are just how broadly these new rules can be used, including the fact that someone simply selling one fire arm would mean going through the mounds of paperwork required to sign up as a licensed gun dealer.
Additionally, doctors could be given leeway to report those that are “mentally ill” to the FBI and therefore have their Second Amendment rights striped without any due process.
The Speaker of the House Paul Ryan had this to say:
“The president is at minimum subverting the legislative branch, and potentially overturning its will. No president should be able to reverse legislative failure by executive fiat, not even incrementally. The American people deserve a president who will respect their constitutional rights — all of them. This is a dangerous level of executive overreach, and the country will not stand for it.”

From the Washington Times:
Setting up a clash with Congress and gun rights groups in his final year in office, President Obama announced Monday that he was issuing regulations to require more background checks on gun purchases while proposing to hire hundreds more federal agents to enforce existing guns laws.
The administrative steps will include a crackdown on gun dealers who bill themselves as “collectors” or “personal sellers” but are actually engaged in the business of firearms sales, including transactions online, said Attorney General Loretta Lynch.
