Is Facebook Inciting And Encouraging Violence Against Israelis?

This is the claim being made by Shurat Hadin NGO, a pro-Israel legal advocacy group. Thee basis of this allegation is that terrorists are using Facebook as a way of recruiting and planning attacks on jews.

Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, the head of Shurat Hadin, said:

“Facebook has turned into a heaven for terrorists. They post about their intended acts, garner support, receive instructions and guidance on how to murder Jews – and all of this is done under the auspices of a commercial company that could easily stop it. While Facebook is satisfied with only words, telling us it intends to ‘take down pages of incitement,’ the website’s pages fill with more and more serious incitement, and we must do whatever it takes to stop it.”

This is an unprecedented move which will be filed in the U.S. No word yet on how successful this suit will be.

From JSpace News:

A pro-Israel legal advocacy center, Shurat Hadin NGO, is leading a lawsuit against Facebook, claiming that Facebook is inciting and encouraging violence against Israelis during the latest bouts of terrorism.

This unheard of legal move is an attempt by Shurat Hadin to get a ruling against Facebook so that Facebook will be forced to close all pages that are calling for violence against Israelis as well as a ruling to force Facebook to block and monitor incitement on its site. Shurat Hadin is planning on filing the suit in the US, which could make things difficult since Facebook can use the First Amendment and the Communications Decency Act to defend itself.

Shurat Hadin said that the legal aspects of the issue have already been looked into, and the NGO is calling on Israelis to send in as many examples as they can find on Facebook of incitement against Israelis that could be used in the lawsuit.
