U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility intercepted $1,500,000 worth of marijuana in a commercial shipment arriving from Mexico.
“This seizure of marijuana in the cargo environment certainly figures among those at the top of the list in terms of quantity for our port,” said Port Director Sylvia Briones, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas. “Our officers continue with an enforcement mindset whether it involves detecting one pound or over 2 tons of narcotics.”
The seizure occurred on June 27, 2019 after a CBP officer referred a tractor/trailer arriving from Mexico with a manifested load of granulated rubber for a non-intrusive imaging (NII) system inspection. A thorough secondary examination of the shipment resulted in officers discovering 772 packages of alleged marijuana weighing 7,302 pounds (3,312.5 kg) concealed within the shipment.
CBP OFO seized the narcotics, the tractor/trailer along with the shipment. The case remains under investigation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
