President Donald Trump’s administration announced on Tuesday that Ukraine accepted a deal proposed by the administration to implement a 30-day ceasefire with Russia.

In a joint statement issued after Tuesday’s meeting in Saudi Arabia, the United States and Ukraine said, “Ukraine expressed readiness to accept the U.S. proposal to enact an immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire, which can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties, and which is subject to acceptance and concurrent implementation by the Russian Federation.”

The joint statement explained that during Tuesday’s meeting, Ukrainian representatives expressed “strong gratitude” toward the 47th president, the United States Congress, and the American people for “making possible meaningful progress toward peace.” The joint statement also confirmed that the United States will “immediately lift the pause on intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Ukraine.”

Following Ukraine’s acceptance of the ceasefire deal, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, “Today, we made an offer that the Ukrainians have accepted, which is to enter into a ceasefire and into immediate negotiations to end this conflict in a way that’s enduring and sustainable and accounts for their interests, their security, their ability to prosper as a nation.”

“And hopefully, we’ll take this offer now to the Russians, and we hope that they’ll say yes, that they’ll say yes to peace,” Rubio added. “The ball is now in their court.”

In Tuesday’s joint statement, the United States and Ukraine noted that the U.S. will “communicate to Russia that Russian reciprocity is the key to achieving peace” in the Russia-Ukraine war. Rubio explained that if Russia agrees to the Trump administration’s ceasefire proposal, additional negotiations can take place to end the war.

“This is very serious. Today people will die in this war. They died yesterday, and sadly, unless there’s a ceasefire tonight, they’ll die tomorrow,” Rubio told reporters. “The president wants that to stop.”

The secretary of state explained that in addition to the ceasefire agreement, the Trump administration’s proposal also emphasized a commitment to hold “immediate negotiations to end this conflict in a way that’s enduring and sustainable.”

Sharing a video message on X, formerly Twitter, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine is “ready to accept” the Trump administration’s ceasefire proposal.

“We see it as a positive step and are ready to take it,” Zelensky stated. “Now, it is up to the United States to convince Russia to do the same. If Russia agrees, the ceasefire will take effect immediately.”
