Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of ABC’s “The View,” suggested Thursday that President Joe Biden “could throw every Republican in jail” if the U.S. Supreme Court rules that former President Donald Trump has presidential immunity from the charges brought against him by Biden’s Department of Justice.
“Let’s look at a scenario where the Supreme Court says yes, he has all those rights,” Goldberg said during Thursday’s show. “He is immune from everything. You know what Joe Biden could do since he is presently president? He could throw every Republican in jail. I mean, he could.”
“What this means is he could do anything,” Goldberg added. “He could dismiss everybody’s debt. You know, there’s a whole bunch of great stuff that could happen. But let’s really look at what this means.”
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court agreed to consider Trump’s appeal that presidential immunity should shield him from criminal prosecution in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s case. Smith has charged Trump with conspiracy against rights, conspiracy to obstruct an official government proceeding, conspiracy to defraud the United States, and the obstruction of an official government proceeding.

According to The Daily Caller, the Supreme Court is not expected to hear oral arguments on the case until April 22.
“So they’re basically kicking the can down the road though,” Goldberg’s co-host, Joy Behar, argued. “They’re not taking up this case immediately. So what’s their motivation then if we all know that they can’t do what you just said because of the extreme power that the president would have? What is their motivation for not doing it right away?”
In response to Behar’s question, co-host Sunny Hostin claimed that some of the conservative justices on the Supreme Court who were appointed by Trump may “want to help” the former president by delaying Smith’s prosecution until after the election.
Hostin explained that Trump could not be indicted by the Department of Justice if the case was delayed until after the election and he succeeded in winning the presidency. “It’s his get-out-of-jail-free card,” she added.
Goldberg’s suggestion that Biden could put every Republican in jail if the Supreme Court rules in Trump’s favor was met with a wave of criticism from social media users.
One social media user tweeted, “This is actually a great way to start a civil war and I’m not really one to hype civil war rhetoric.” Another user wrote, “Fascist[s] feel emboldened under Biden. They aren’t even trying to hide it anymore. The scary thing is there are millions of people on the left who agree with Whoopi.”
