Senate border bill a ‘trap’ to ‘boost’ Biden, GOP Rep warns

In a series of posts on social media on Monday, Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) gave a scathing rebuke of the bipartisan Senate border deal, describing it as the “War, Debt, and Open Borders” bill.

Posting multiple statements on X, formerly Twitter, Roy warned Republicans that the $118 billion border bill proposed by the Senate is a “trap” that is intended to “boost Biden” against former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

“The bill is NOT well-intended. It is also not a border security bill. It is, however, a bill designed by Democrats to boost Biden against Trump by helping Dems blame Republicans for open borders,” Roy stated, “A trap into which some GOP willingly walk in order to fund an insatiable desire for endless wars.”

The Texas representative claimed that the Senate’s proposed legislation would involve the United States borrowing $118 billion, with $60 billion for Ukraine, $20 billion for “alleged border security,” and additional aid for Taiwan and Israel. Roy warned that the funding would only “ensure” more issues at the southern border.

Roy wrote, “The border ‘crisis’ is a crisis not of resources or lack of authority, but rather the result of abuse of law by the President – the willing disregard of the text & spirit of laws designed to maintain operational … control of the border & secure our nation – in favor of using judge-made loopholes & very limited exceptions (asylum & parole) to establish a default of ‘encounter & release’ instead of ‘encounter & remove.'”

Roy urged Congress to take action to “stop” the Biden administration’s border bill and encouraged Congress to consider H.R.2 and its “leaner, stronger little brother” H.R. 29. While Roy claimed the Senate’s legislation was “designed to accept and perpetuate the Democrat scam of mass migration,” he argued that the bills crafted in the House of Representatives have been designed to “close the loopholes” and “force” the president to “follow the law.”

Roy concluded, “This bill is a partisan ‘uniparty’ war bill masquerading as border security that perpetuates open borders, massive debt, & continued proxy wars… a ‘shiny object’ not worthy of further comment beyond immediate burial in the grave.”

While The Daily Wire reported that the Senate is expected to vote on the border legislation sometime this week, the House has indicated that the bill will not even be brought to a vote.

“Any consideration of this Senate bill in its current form is a waste of time,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and other House leaders wrote in a statement. “It is DEAD on arrival in the House. We encourage the U.S. Senate to reject it.”
