“The United States Capitol Police (USCP) is investigating a suspicious vehicle after a K9 indicated interest on the vehicle in the 100 block of D Street, NE. USCP Headquarters is being evacuated out of an abundance of caution,” the United States Capitol Police posted on X, formerly Twitter.

“The USCP continues to investigate. Thank you for your patience,” the agency wrote in another post.

According to the USCP’s website, the agency protects Congress, members of Congress, employees and visitors, as well as Congressional buildings and grounds, from crime, disruption and terrorism

“We protect and secure Congress so it can fulfill its constitutional and legislative responsibilities in a safe, secure and open environment,” the website states. “We protect the legislative process, the symbol of our democracy, the people who carry out the process, and the millions of visitors who travel here to see democracy in action. We also protect everyone who visits the Capitol, who can see first‐hand how we work to represent the best of America’s spirit and diversity.”
