A Maine woman has been arrested after calling in bomb threats to her boyfriend’s workplace because she wanted to spend more time with him.

WABI reports Kayla Blake, 33, of Etna, Maine, called in two separate bomb threats to Puritan Medical Products in Pittsfield, Maine, where her boyfriend works. Police say she called Maine State Police, claiming she would put a bomb at the plant on Thursday; two hours later, she called again, threatening to put four pipe bombs there.

About 400 people at both Puritan plants in Pittsfield and nearby Guilford were evacuated due to the threats. Both plants, which produce swabs for Covid-19 tests and other medical uses, were shut down for the day Thursday.

According to the Portland Press Herald, employees returned to work Friday after investigators were able to trace the calls to Blake, who admitted to making the calls and said she did not have any explosives. Blake reportedly said she made the threats so her boyfriend, who was not identified, would be sent home and she could spend more time with him.

Blake was charged with a felony count of terrorizing and taken to the Somerset County Jail. Her bail was set at $1,500.

The Press Herald reports she was also ordered to stay away from Puritan property and not contact the company.

Puritan said it lost a full day’s worth of production and was still assessing the financial impact.
