Two airmen are dead after their T-38 Talon training aircraft were involved in a “mishap” at Vance Air Force Base, Okla.
The incident took place at 9:10 a.m. CST while the aircraft were undergoing a training mission.
Two airmen were aboard each aircraft. The condition of the two surviving airmen is not yet clear.
News helicopter footage shows one T-38 resting upside down in the grass adjacent to the runway, and the second T-38 upright farther away in the grass.
Vance AFB officials have not yet commented on the cause of the accident, but an investigation is underway.
“All we can disclose is that there are two fatalities as a result of the crash,” Airman Zoe Perkins with Vance AFB’s public affairs office told the Associated Press.
In August 2018, a pilot had ejected from a T-38 jet at Vance Air Force Base before it crashed and exploded on impact. The pilot reportedly experienced engine problems at 2,000 feet altitude, according to KOCO 5 News.
