Trump visits and speaks at oldest Marine Barracks

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were expected to visit U.S. Marine Barracks Washington 8th and I today.

Trump also delivered remarks on supporting veterans and military families.

The “8th and I” Barracks is the oldest active post in the Marine Corps, being founded in 1801 by then-President Thomas Jefferson and Lt. Col. William Ward Burrows, who was the second commandant of the Marine Corps.

The Barracks supports both ceremonial and security missions in the nation’s capital, according to its website.

The Barracks are home to the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon, Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, the Marine Band, the official Marine Corps Color Guard and the Marine Corps Body Bearers, as well as the being the Home of the Commandants.

The Barracks and the Home of the Commandants are both registered national historic landmarks.
