Op-Ed: The gun world’s best (hard to get) 9mm handgun

There are several handguns out there that are hard to get. We may see pictures in magazines, videos on YouTube, or people enjoying the gun at the range, but when we decide that it’s the model we want, it isn’t available. When I have experienced this (along with people I know) it’s frustrating. In the gun world, when our mind is made up to buy a certain gun, we become so myopic that nothing else will satisfy the craving.

Stepping away from Glock, Smith & Wesson and Springfield isn’t always a risky proposition. Gun companies worldwide produce incredible firearms that are just as reliable, accurate and functionally excellent. Finding these guns in our local gun store can be difficult. They may be scarcely available online, however, they get eaten up quickly there too.

With this review, I am featuring a handgun that I have a special admiration for. It has amazing trigger action, excellent ergonomics and carries 17 rounds of 9mm in the magazine. They install a sight system called “trapezoid sights,” which uses a triangle front sight and angled lines in the rear. Simply by filling in the rear sight lines with the triangle, this handgun will shoot extremely accurate.

What I consider the gun world’s best, hard to get 9mm handgun for under $500 is the Steyr M9A1. The Steyr M9A1 is an Austrian-made handgun with a four-inch barrel and shoots as smooth as any handgun in the semi-auto, compact 9mm class. They show up at the local gun store on occasion, but when seen, people buy them quickly. The Steyr handguns models (L9, M9, C9 and S9) are highly desired for home defense and concealed carry. They can be purchased between $450 – $480.

For more information, check out the video below and let us know your thoughts on my handgun choice, and what make and model you feel is the best (hard to get) 9mm handgun for under $500.
