Amid heightened tensions with North Korea, President Donald Trump tweeted an update on the situation Monday morning.

“I have confidence that Kim Jong Un will honor the contract we signed &, even more importantly, our handshake,” the President wrote.

“We agreed to the denuclearization of North Korea,” he pointed out. “China, on the other hand, may be exerting negative pressure on a deal because of our posture on Chinese Trade-Hope Not!”

Trump and Kim met in Singapore this past June and signed an agreement at the historic summit that, among other things, says North Korea will work toward complete and verifiable denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

While North Korea has not tested any missiles in recent months, and tensions were seemingly cooled for the time being following the summit, North Korean officials slammed the most recent talks that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had last week.

Pompeo wrapped up his third visit to North Korea on Saturday.

While he called talks over a two-day period “productive,” the North Korean Foreign Ministry rejected that sentiment and released a statement saying the talks with Pompeo and the United States’ attitude about the talks are “regrettable,” and that the U.S. had a “gangster-like attitude” about demands to denuclearize.
