Former U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs worker Kenneth Richard Devore was convicted by a federal jury last week for conning an inept disabled veteran out of more than $680,000.
The 44-year-old Devore, from Jonesborough, Tenn., was convicted of wire fraud, mail fraud, financial conflict of interest, stealing public money and false statements, U.S. Attorney Doug Overbey’s office said.
His sentencing is Nov. 5, Military.com reported.

Devore was a VA field examiner in 2015 when he swindled a Knoxville veteran by convincing him that he needed a will
Devore took it upon himself to list his name as the sole beneficiary of that will, then forged the veteran’s initials to the paperwork.
After he was forced to resign, Devore took a position at the National Background Investigations Bureau. He obtained the job by falsifying information on the application pertaining to his employment and education history.
Using even more deception, Devore received VA disability compensation from 2009 to 2017 by lying about not being able to work.
