1 wounded, suspect in custody after shooting at California high school

[UPDATE: 12:12 p.m. EST] The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has told ABC 7 that one student has been wounded after a shooting at Highland High School; the gunshot victim was taken to a hospital.

ABC 7 said the teenage boy, 17, was shot through the forearm.

[UPDATE: 11:25 a.m. EST] One person has been detained in connection with reports of an active shooter at the Highland High School, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

Authorities on Friday responded to reports of a possible shooting at Highland High School in Palmdale, California, NBC Los Angeles reported.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said that deputies responded to the scene.

Firefighter-paramedics also responded to the high school, having received a report of a gunshot wound to an individual.

Deputies responded to reports of “shots heard” at nearby Manzanita Elementary School, but the school was cleared.
