Here’s how the Walther PPQ SC stacks up against the Ruger American and HK P30SK

Here's how the Walther PPQ SC stacks up against the Ruger American and HK P30SK. (YouTube)

When Walther introduced the new PPQ Sub-Compact, the gun world embraced it with open arms. The popularity of the compact-size Walther PPQ drove many of its loyal followers to want the same pistol in a shorter frame. I know several people who consider the Walther PPQ one of the finest polymer frame striker-fired handguns in the crowded compact-size 9mm market. I have owned a PPQ 9mm for a couple years and agree with that sentiment.

I was one of the few reviewers to get my hands on the Walther PPQ SC prior to it’s official release. I wanted Walther is keep the same features offered with the PPQ M2 in a smaller package. The cross-directional texturing on the grip, smooth 5.6 trigger with a short reset, and exceptional shooting and reliability were features that needed to be duplicated. When I originally got my hands on the new model it was clear Walther delivered.

After my initial review, viewers requested the next best thing: comparisons. I came up with two other pistols that stack up well against the PPQ SC and share similar dimensions and capacity. The Ruger American Compact is a pistol that was also highly requested by Ruger fans who loved the larger Ruger American that was introduced a couple years ago. The HK P30SK (Sub-Kompact in German) is the smaller version of their full-size HK P30. The Ruger American and the HK P30SK are both accurate and reliable Sub-Compact handguns that compare well with the Walther PPQ Sub-Compact.

I call reviews like this “three gun comparisons.” I found that viewers enjoy reviews that feature three guns as opposed to the standard side-by-side two gun comparisons. I spoke about the feature differences and then shot each of the guns from 10 yards. The viewers are then encouraged to rank these guns in order according to their preference.

Watch the video and feel free to share your thoughts. I will then total up the viewers’ preferences and follow up with the results.
