An Arizona man who volunteers for an organization that offers aid to immigrants crossing the desert has been arrested.

Scott Daniel Warren, 35, a volunteer for the organization “No More Deaths,” was arrested and charged with harboring two people in the country illegally, 12 News reported.

Tim Kennedy, Army Special Forces sniper and former professional MMA fighter, tweeted Wednesday: “Pretty sure that this is called aiding and abetting. That’s why it’s called ‘illegal’ immigration because they are… you know… breaking the law.”

Warren’s arrest came after the organization gave videos, taken between 2010 and 2017, to news outlets. The videos show border patrol agents knocking over water jugs for immigrants.

Warren was arrested after border patrol agents conducted surveillance on a building that had water, clean clothes and food for two illegal immigrants.

“We see it as an escalation and criminalization of aid workers,” volunteer Caitlin Deighan said, adding that it was suspicious that Warren was arrested so close to the time the videos were released.

According to the “No More Deaths” website, the organization is “dedicated to stepping up efforts to stop the deaths of migrants in the desert and to achieving the enactment of a set of faith-based principles for immigration reform.”

A spokesperson for Arizona State University, where Warren teaches an online environmental studies course, said Warren’s arrest will not affect his role at the university.

“Mr. Warren was not acting in his capacity as an ASU employee at the time of the alleged incident and we have no reason to believe it will impact his ability to fulfill his current duty with the university,” a university spokesperson said in a statement to 12 News.
