An Amtrak train carrying several Republican members of Congress – including House Speaker Paul Ryan – on their way to a retreat in West Virginia hit a garbage truck and crashed Wednesday morning. The fatality was not one of the lawmakers.

The White House confirmed that one person was dead, but that no lawmakers, staff or family members were seriously injured.

It is unclear who was injured in the crash, but Rep. John Faso told CNN that he believes no one on the train was injured, but it is unclear if those outside the train were injured.

“There was (what) looks like a tractor trailer carrying trash that was hit by the train,” Faso said. “I think everyone on the train is OK. I don’t know that for sure, it’s a long train. But most of the concern is for the people outside.”

The Amtrak train, which left Union Station in Washington, D.C., was carrying members of Congress and some of their family members. The crash occurred near Crozet, Virginia, around 11:20 a.m.

The Republican members of Congress were on their way to a retreat at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
