A Wisconsin company has microchipped nearly half of its employees, and even held a “chip party” to implant them.

Three Square Market, or 32M, recently microchipped 41 of its 85 employees – who volunteered to be implanted, and the company also paid for the $300 device.

The microchips will be used to open doors, log onto computers and even purchase snacks with the wave of a hand, as the chips are implanted in employees’ hands.

The company says this is the first time the technology is being used in the United States, where the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved it in 2004.

“But that’s still not very long-term in my book, so I’d just like to know more about the long-term health effects,” marketing executive Katie Langer told the Chicago Tribune. Langer did not receive a microchip implant.
