NRA Gets Congress To Review Obama’s Last Ditch Gun Grab Effort

January 26, 2017

Yesterday, Congress agreed to evaluate one of Obama’s farewell rules, one that would unjustifiably shred the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans.

Chris W. Cox, executive director, NRA-ILA said, “Congress’s decision to review the Obama administration’s back-door gun grab is a significant step forward in restoring the fundamental constitutional rights of many law-abiding gun owners. The NRA has been fighting this unconstitutional government overreach since it was first discussed and we look forward to swift congressional action to overturn it.”

Per Obama and his administration, the Social Security Administration finalized efforts to prohibit certain recipients who use a representative payee from owning firearms. This imprudent act was aimed at a group of defenseless Americans and took away their right to enjoy their Second Amendment rights. The proposal was first announced in summer of 2015 and was immediately lashed back at by the NRA who refuses to allow social security recipients to have their rights stripped away without due process.

Under the Congressional Review Act (CRA), Congress will assess the ban and eliminate anything deemed unconstitutional and all other pertaining actions that an outgoing administration may initiate during their last six months in office. However, this ban is eligible for consideration and will move to the House with a vote, possibly as early as next week.

“We are pleased that Congress is moving swiftly to ensure that law-abiding Americans’ constitutional rights are respected. We would like to thank Reps. Sam Johnson (R-TX) and Ralph Abraham (R-LA) for leading this effort in the House, as well as with Speaker Paul Ryan for his leadership on this issue,” Cox said.
