Ohio State University President Dismisses Campus Carry Proposal Following Knife And Car Attack

December 02, 2016

Ohio State University President Michael Drake said Wednesday that despite the terror-inspired knife and car attack that injured 11 people on the campus of Ohio State University, he is still opposed to campus carry legislation, making the argument that only trained professionals should be carrying guns on campus.

Ohio legislators are considering a bill where people with concealed carry licenses can carry handguns on college campuses. The colleges or universities in the state would then have the option to approve or reject the gun measure.

Speaking on WOSU’s “All Sides with Ann Fisher,” Drake said on Wednesday morning that the attack proves his point, noting that OSU police officer Alan Horujko’s training is what stopped the attack and saved the lives of several people.

“None of my colleagues or myself think that’s a good idea,” Drake said regarding campus carry legislation.

Two days prior to his comments, Somali refugee Abdul Razak Ali Artan injured 11 people after ramming his car into a crowd of people and then using a butcher knife to stab people. OSU Police Officer Alan Horujko fatally shot Artan within two minutes of Artan beginning his attack. Authorities believe that Artan was inspired by ISIS propaganda.
