Watch Mark Zuckerberg Show Off His Crazy A.I. Home Assistant Voiced By Morgan Freeman (20 Million Views)

December 21, 2016

Yesterday, Mark Zuckerburg, the CEO and co-founder of Facebook, showed off an artificial intelligence application that he built for his home.

He calls the AI Jarvis, and after asking his followers to pick who should be the voice for his AI, Morgan Freeman was chosen. Zuckerburg then called Freeman to ask him if he would do it for him.

Similar to that of Amazon’s Alexa, Jarvis can be activated by voice while also being able to be activated through text. It connects to several objects in the home.

Jarvis is capable of doing several things that Zuckerburg shows off in the video such as turning on music, turning lights on and off in the house, adjusting thermostats, making toast and opening the front gates for friends

In January, Zuckerburg announced that his New Years Resolution was to build an AI system that could run his home using Facebook tools.

“One of the challenges was to build an AI system to help me control my home and my work, and the other was to run an average of one mile a day. It turns out that one of those challenges was a lot easier than the other,” Zuckerberg said in a town hall event in Italy.

He struggled during his time creating Jarvis and needed to find appliances whose power could be controlled by an app. He also had to learn about languages so that he could request songs, but after putting in more than 100 hours into the project, he was able to create it.

“My goal was to learn about the state of artificial intelligence,” Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post, “where we’re further along than people realize and where we’re still a long ways off.”
