Concealed Carry Coming To Select Ohio School Districts

November 18, 2016

Across Ohio, approximately 40 school districts are putting concealed carry programs into their schools. Ohio school superintendents are permitting this on a district by district decision and allowing each individual school to set up their own policies on concealed carry in regards to faculty and staff. Some of the Ohio communities are showing concerns about a faculty member carrying a gun and feel they were not given a timely notification about the matter.

David Hire, Superintendent of Coshocton City Schools, is an advocate of having an armed staff by year’s end said, “Five years ago we probably wouldn’t have considered it, and even three or two years ago I would still have been saying this is not the direction we want to go. But we’re living in a society where this is becoming almost weekly or every other week where there is some event somewhere around the country.”

Counties in Ohio will not just arm faculty members without providing the training needed to prepare them. Carrying a gun is not a requirement, it will be an option.
