John Kerry Calls For War Crime Investigation Of Russia In Syrian Conflict

October 07, 2016

Secretary of State John Kerry announced Friday that Russia’s involvement in the conflict in Syria calls for an investigation on whether the country is committing war crimes. Russia has been assisting Syria in bombing the Eastern region of Aleppo which they claim is to help the Government defeat the growing number of terrorists in the region. However, Syrian rebels who are opposed to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad are also being hit, along with thousands of innocent civilians. Kerry, who has been vocal about his frustrations over not being able to come to a diplomatic solution to halt Russia from assisting in the devastation in Aleppo, is now looking to launch an investigation into whether or not Russia is intentionally assisting Syria in bombing its own people.

Kerry’s call for investigative action against Russia comes as Russia’s government ratified an agreement for open-ended deployment of an air force unit in Syria. Overnight, Syrian forces struck another hospital killing 20 and wounding another 100. Kerry says that Syria and Russia owe the world “more than an explanation” about why these attacks continually hit hospitals and hurt the innocent population of women and children.

Kerry says the bombings by these two nations on Aleppo “beg for an appropriate investigation of war crimes” and are “way beyond” accidental. Kerry also went as far as to accuse Syria and Russia of enforcing a “targeted strategy” to “terrorize civilians.”
