Ex-President Of The Armed Forces Foundation Indicted For Allegedly Stealing From Military Charity

September 22, 2016

Patricia Driscoll, the ex-president of the Armed Forces Foundation, ex-girlfriend of NASCAR driver Kurt Busch, and an alleged ex-CIA agent has been indicted on eight counts of fraud and tax-evasion. Driscoll is accused of misappropriating approximately $600,000 from 2006 to 2014 while acting as the president of the Armed Forces Foundation, a Washington-based charity created to assist veterans.

Driscoll claimed that 94 to 96 percent of the donations received by the Armed Forces Foundation went directly to veterans or the families of veterans. The charity reported $2.3 million dollars worth of donations in 2014. Prosecutors believe the company received much more money than their reported income but believe that it was stolen by Driscoll through wire fraud, mail fraud, and tax evasion.

Driscoll allegedly reported sham donations and failed to disclose massive donations from legitimate donors in order to misuse the money for personal meals, travel, parking tickets, makeup and gifts. She resigned from her position after a 12 year career when the allegations of her fraudulent activities began to surface. She has denied the allegations since the beginning and issued the following statement after resigning:

“I am proud of what we achieved during my time at the Armed Forces Foundation. Especially as it pertains to PTSD [post-traumatic stress disorder] and TBI [traumatic brain injury], the foundation is saving lives by creating awareness and helping veterans find the services they need before taking tragic and drastic steps such as suicide.”

The 11-page indictment document states that Driscoll went as far as brazenly depositing funds from the Armed Forces Foundation directly into her personal bank account. It is believed that she skimmed at least $600,000 over the course of her career on top of her $150,000 salary.

Driscoll has managed to stay out of the spotlight for several years. She first made headlines in 2014 after a domestic abuse incident with then-boyfriend NASCAR driver Kurt Busch. Busch claims that Driscoll struggled with alcohol and substance abuse throughout their relationship. He also states that she claimed to be an ex-CIA agent that traveled the world and killed several high-profile drug dealers. Busch claims she showed him pictures with several of the deceased drug dealers.

Busch’s allegations have not been proven. He was issued a no-contact order in 2015 but was never charged with any domestic abuse crimes.
