New Raw Video Footage Released: Dramatic Takedown Of Seattle School Gunman

June 17, 2016

This raw footage, newly released, shows students at Seattle Pacific University disarming a deranged student that attempted to go on a shooting rampage in 2014. The shooter, 27-year-old Aaron R. Ybarra, reportedly suffered from several mental illnesses and decided to go on the deadly rampage after his parents rearranged his bedroom furniture. He was able to shoot three people before being stopped by a student monitor that was armed with pepper spray.

After shooting two students outside the building Ybarra enters a student facility and shoots a female student, 19-year-old Sarah Williams in the chest. Williams disappears offscreen but survived her injuries. Ybarra was planning on taking hostages but was stopped by  SPU student Jon Meis. Meis, the shoeless hero in the video below, is able to incapacitate Ybarra by blinding him with pepper spray and tackling him to the ground. Meis then holds Ybarra down with the help of another male student until police arrive.

This video shows that it is possible for citizens to defend themselves against campus shooters and begs the question; would Meis have been able to stop Ybarra sooner if he had a weapon more powerful than pepper spray?
