Canadian Submarine Sinks U.S. Ship In Demonstration Caught On Tape

May 13, 2016

A Canadian submarine shows off the firepower of the MK-48 torpedo by firing one at the hull of a U.S. ship. The demonstration took place in the Pacific ocean on 7/17/2012. The sub was able to sink the ship with a single MK-48 torpedo and the glorious destruction was all caught on video.

Several aircraft filmed the sinking of the ship during a SINKEX live-fire exercise. The Canadian sub showing off it’s capabilities is the HMCS Victoria. The ship on the receiving end of the torpedo is the USNS Concord (T-AFS-5). The Concord served the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1992. It was officially stricken in 2009 and remained inactive until its demise in 2012.

The HMCS Victoria was declared fully operational following the test fire and remains active to this day. Watch as the USNS Concord takes a titanic-esque dive to the bottom of the sea after being devastated by the raw explosive power of the MK-48 torpedo. See it’s final moments until it descends 15,390 feet to its final resting spot at the bottom of the ocean off the coast of Hawaii.
