It’s called Ideal Conceal and it is a 380-caliber handgun that looks exactly like a cellphone. The company touts the guns ability to hide in plain sight without causing security problems. The two shot gun is plastic, has a metal core, and in one click of the safety be ready to fire. Additionally, the phone is the same size as a Galaxy S7 with a case on it (3 by 5 inches) allowing it to easily fit in someones pocket.

NBC News reports:

The creator, Kirk Kjellberg, told NBC News the idea came to him after he attracted attention for carrying a concealed weapon in a restaurant.

“A boy spotted me in the restaurant and said loudly, ‘Mommy, Mommy, that guy’s got a gun!’ And then pretty much the whole restaurant stared at me,” he said.

The new gun is taking off on social media and demand is growing rapidly. Over 16,000 people like the Facebook page as of publishing and over 4,000 people have already inquired about purchasing one.

However there have been concerns regarding how the gun may pose threats to airport security and hazards to young children who may not be able to see the difference between the gun and a phone.

Here is how Kjellberg has responded to both claims. On airport security:

“It’s kind of an erroneous idea that this is any different from any other pistol, because when you run it through an x-ray, it has barrels and triggers and hammers — all the things other guns have. It has enough metal in it that it can’t escape the metal detector.”

On safety among children:

“In America, we have lots of children in contact with pistols already. There’s been quite a few incidents long before my product came along,” he said. “For me, it’s not the gun. It’s the people. So if you have a pistol and you have children anywhere near you, it’s your responsibility to lock that stuff up and keep it away from children.”

The company is sending over x-rays to Homeland Security to help them see the difference between the gun and a cell phone.

Sales for the gun will begin in October, after June’s prototype release date. The price is said to be $395.
