Anonymous Takes Down 5,500 ISIS Twitter Accounts, Begins Leaking Personal Info

November 17, 2015

Anonymous wasn’t joking when they promised their biggest operation ever called #opISIS or #opParis. Already the hacker group has taken down 5,500 ISIS-linked Twitter accounts and now it is getting even more personal.

According to documents seen by the British publication The Independent, Anonymous is now in possession of personal info of alleged extremists in Europe and beyond.

This includes names and physical addresses. It should be noted that Anonymous has wrongly accused people in the past of association to ISIS but given the outpouring of rage in response to the Paris attacks, you can expect little mercy.

If personal info of extremists across the world becomes public, it could be a major game changer.

From the Independent:

Anonymous has begun leaking the personal information of suspected extremists, after it “declared war” on Isis in the wake of the deadly attacks in Paris.

The activist collective is assembling lists of the Twitter accounts and websites of extremists, in an attempt to have them taken down. At least one post seen by The Independent contains details including the physical address of a person it claims is an Isis recruiter in Europe.

Activists claim to have successfully had accounts and sites taken down already. Accounts associated with the group claimed that it was responsible for the removal of more than 5,500 accounts.
