On May 25th, two men (later arrested and charged) broke into the home of a 101 year old veteran, James Sorrentino, and stole a wristwatch, pocketknife, and a wallet that had $30 in it. However, on Friday he received a big surprise from some loyal Americans.
Veteran Gets Big Surprise From Student Vets
According to the AP:
A 101-year-old veteran in Carson City who was the victim of a home invasion robbery over the Memorial Day weekend has received a $1,000 check during a surprise visit from supporters. Members of Western Nevada College’s Student Veterans Club presented the check to James Sorrentino on Friday. Organizer Bill Herron says the group wanted Sorrentino to know the community is behind him and people aren’t all bad. Sorrentino thanked the group, saying the check was a surprise and shows “patriotism is still alive” in America.
Sorrentino served in in the Army Air Corps and Air Force during World War II.
It’s always nice to be reminded that there are great people in this country who look out for our veterans, and are willing to help out in any way they can.
