U.S. Embassy officials in Kiev, along with Secretary of State John Kerry, Sunday accused Russia of supplying the Ukrainian rebels with the advanced weaponry used to butcher almost 300 innocent people on Thursday.
According to AP:
The embassy officials said that Russia last weekend sent a convoy of military equipment with up to 150 vehicles including tanks, armored personnel carriers, artillery and rocket launchers to the separatists They also said they have information indicating the separatists are being trained at a facility in southwest Russia on air-defense systems. The pro-Russian separatist fighters, officials said, also have “demonstrated proficiency with surface-to-air missile systems and have downed more than a dozen aircraft over the past few months, including two large transport aircraft.” The assessment is essentially identical to the one that Secretary of State John Kerry gave Sunday while making his rounds on the morning talk shows.
Embassy officials also stated that the U.S. detected a “surface-to-air missile launch from a separatist-controlled area in southeastern Ukraine at the same time contact was lost Thursday with flight MH17. They also think the missile was a SA-11.”
AMN has reported on the separatist leader believed to be responsible for the attack.
No Final Rest
Continuing with their tradition of disrespecting human life, the rebels have not released the bodies of their victims, nor have they allowed international monitors to take a detailed look at the impact site. Earlier today, the AP reported:
The black boxes for the downed Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 have been found, a Ukraine rebel leader said Sunday. Alexander Borodai said that the devices would be handed over to the International Civil Aviation Organization. The announcement came as international investigators and Ukrainian officials said that pro-Russia separatists forced emergency services to surrender the bodies of 196 victims of the plane crash and loaded them onto refrigerated trains bound for a rebel-held city. Borodai said the bodies would remain in refrigerated containers at a train station in the town of Torez until the arrival of an international aviation delegation.
Whether or not the rebels will make good on their word and release the bodies remains to be seen. However, there is no reason to believe they actually will keep their word.
Put simply; We wait and see. No one can be sure if this will escalate or not. To quote Ronald Reagan, “Make no mistake … this was the Soviet Union against the world and the moral precepts which guide human relations among people everywhere. It was an act of barbarism.” These Russian-backed terrorists deserve to be brought to justice. The victims deserve justice. Russia needs to understand that it’s not open season. There will be consequences for their actions.
298 people died in a spilt second, slaughtered by terrorists more interested in making a statement than achieving actual results. We pray for their souls, may they find peace. And we pray that our leaders in Washington will finally pull their heads out of the sand and take a stand against the rising Red tide, before it’s too late.
