As AMN has been reporting, it is very likely that Russian separatists in Ukraine shot down MH17, killing all 297 on board. The US confirms that the missile came from the area controlled by the Russian separatists. The leader of the Russian separatists is a Russian secret police officer.

According to the Hill,

Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was “was likely downed by an SA-11 missile, operated from a separatist-held location in eastern Ukraine,” U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Samantha Power told the United Nations Security Council on Friday.

Power said that the U.S.  “cannot rule out” that Russian personnel provided technical assistance to Ukrainian separatists suspected of attacking the plane, noting the “technical complexity” of the surface-to-air missile system.

Power characterized the incident as “fueled by Russian support for separatists” and said Moscow “must rein in what is has unleashed.”

The comments were the strongest effort yet by the United States to pin responsibility for Thursday’s crash, which left 298 dead, on Moscow.

Strelko runs the “separatists” (who actually want to run all of Ukraine as a Russian possession). He rules with an iron fist, making all significant decisions. It is likely that he personally gave the order to shoot down MH17.

The Russian GRU-controlled separatists have been shooting down other planes. They are only denying shooting down this one because they found out it was a civilian plane.

As the Washington Free Beacon reported in January, Strelko is a Russian agent:

A key figure in covert Russian efforts to destabilize eastern Ukraine is working for Russia’s GRU military intelligence service, according to U.S. officials.

Igor Vsevolodovich Girkin, who is currently using the nom de guerre Igor Strelkov, has identified himself in press reports as “defense minister” of the self-proclaimed, pro-Russian “Donetsk People’s Republic. This week he called for Russia to send military aid to rebels in eastern Ukraine.

U.S. officials said Strelkov is considered a leading pro-Russian rebel who is undermining stability as part of a major Russian covert action program in Ukraine.

Officials said Girkin is a GRU colonel who was first identified by the Ukrainian SBU intelligence service. Girkin traveled to the Crimea in February and traveled to Donetsk in April. While in the Crimea was a military adviser to Sergei Aksenov, the current head of Russian-occupied Crimea.
