Deployed Marine LCpls Jonathan Thompson and Willie Pittman put on a guitar jam session recorded at the USO at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. American Military News interviewed Thompson electronically.
Before we get to the music, here is something more important: Thompson would like to give “a shout out to my dad, Johnny Thompson, who is in the hospital right now due to heart condition, and to my fellow Marines in WPNS platoon.”
Thompson and Pittman are with 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment C Company Weapons Platoon, part of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).

“I played at the USO during the few days we were at Camp Buehring in Kuwait,” Thompson said. The USO HQ in Arlington, VA may get his performance featured on NPR’s “Tiny Desk Concerts,” which would be very wide visibility.
“I would like to use the publicity it’s getting to try and get more donations to the USO,” Thompson said, “so deployed military have more options and more to do when they have down time.”
“I know a lot of people follow” American Military on Facebook, he said, and featuring it here, “would be a cool way for more people to see it.”
Thompson has been deployed since February 10th. He has composed a wide variety of music, playing multiple instruments.
