Megyn Kelly interviewed former Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter, former State Department official Liz Cheney on June 18. Kelly accused the former VP of getting just about everything wrong in Iraq.
Cheney noted that everyone else was wrong about WMD, too, and that the Bush surge worked, taking a bit credit for it himself. In fact, the surge was a Cheney policy.
The Status of Forces Agreement with Iraq was to be signed before the American pullout. It was to be an agreement on troop levels, as well as their governance in country.
The SOFA never got made. Whether that’s because Nouri Al-Maliki was too tough a negotiator or Barack Obama was too inept is a matter of definitions. Obama wanted all US forces out of Iraq, however, and in then end that is what he got.
