Marine Vet Gives His Life To Protect His Students

October 22, 2013

When a shooter entered Michael Landsberry’s middle school classroom, his Marine instincts took over. He put his body in between the shooter and his children to shield them from the blasts.

His heroic actions cost him his life.

Landsberry served two tours in Afghanistan before becoming a teacher. Two students were injured and are in stable condition at the hospital. Landsberry’s actions undoubtably saved lives yesterday and to the parents of the children in that classroom, ‘thank you’ will never be enough.

We’re hearing an incredible story of heroism by a Nevada middle school teacher, whose brave actions cost him his life, but saved the lives of his students.

Michael Landsberry, 45, was shot and killed inside Sparks Middle School Monday morning as he tried to shield his students from the gunshots. Landsberry was a Marine veteran who served two tours in Afghanistan.

Landsberry leaves behind a wife and two stepdaughters. Two students were wounded by the gunman, who committed suicide at the scene. Both injured students are in stable condition.

Police have not released the identity of the gunman or a possible motive.

Will Carr reported the latest details, including reaction from students and local residents, on America’s Newsroom.
