For the first time in two years an independent election commissioner has been killed in Afghanistan.
Who leaked the story? A spokesperson for the Taliban on Twitter, who seemingly bragged about the assassination.
Here’s the tweet (translation below):
“At 9 a.m. this morning, Engineer Mohammad Aman head of Kunduz Independent Election Commission was killed by our Mujahedeen in Takharistan area of Kunduz city.”
As you could imagine, the response was less-than-friendly.
Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan announced the assassination of an Afghan election official on Twitter Wednesday morning.
Mohammad Amanullah, head of the Independent Election Commission in the Kunduz province of Afghanistan, was shot by two gunman who fired while driving by on a motorcycle, and died after arriving at a hospital a short time later.
About an hour following the shooting, a spokesman for the insurgents tweeted, “At 9 a.m. this morning, Engineer Mohammad Aman head of Kunduz Independent Election Commission was killed by our Mujahedeen in Takharistan area of Kunduz city.”
