The two U.S. soldiers who were killed Wednesday when their NATO convoy came under attack by an IED in Afghanistan’s Kandahar Province have been identified.

The U.S. Department of Defense has identified the two soldiers killed as:

  • Sgt. Jonathon Michael Hunter, 23, of Columbus, Indiana, and
  • Spc. Christopher Michael Harris, 25, of Jackson Springs, North Carolina.

The soldiers were supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. They were assigned to 2nd Battalion, 504th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

The two soldiers died as a result of injuries sustained when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near their convoy

The incident is being investigated.
