A Navy sailor from the cruiser USS Shiloh, whom Navy officials reported overboard last week, was discovered alive on board the ship, according to a 7th Fleet release.

Gas Turbine Systems Technician 3rd Class Peter Mims, 23, was found hiding in the engine room, according to the Navy Times.

Mims was believed to have fallen into the sea from the cruiser USS Shiloh about 180 miles east of Okinawa, Japan.

Two Japanese Coast Guard ships, the destroyers John S. McCain and McCampbell, the carrier Ronald Reagan, helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, and a Navy P-8 maritime patrol aircraft were all involved in assisting the Shiloh in the search for the sailor.

The 50-hour search, covering roughly 5,500 square miles of the Philippine Sea, was suspended on midnight June 11.

“We are thankful to have found our missing shipmate and appreciate all the hard work of our Sailors and Japanese partners in searching for him,” Rear Adm. Charles Williams, commander, Carrier Strike Group 5 and Task Force 70, said in the release. “I am relieved that this Sailor’s family will not be joining the ranks of Gold Star Families that have sacrificed so much for our country.”
